No, this isn't a Tony Stewart fan (THAT would make this pic perfect) it's one of the Rayados of Monterrey's "Home Depot Gals," performing Saturday, for the season opener. My team, oddly enough, was the "home" team.
I didn't get to see the game, since those rich bastards are only on satellite. (can we all say, "Cha-ching?") Mediotiempo.com's take on the match, was that my team looked great for the first three minutes, scored, and then lost a player to two successive bookings (one for a hard foul, the second for protesting) ten minutes later.
Monterrey's defense held for 68 minutes, but ultimately lost two points, when one of their old nemesis from their arch-rival Tigres,' Walter Gaitan pulled off a beauty of a goal. Niiice one.
I'm going to hold judgment for the moment, figuring the early goal was an unexpected shock of relief to a team that's anxiety level must have been high-sky from the knowledge that they are NOW truly without excuse, since the management had done it's job, having recently spent the big bucks for Ricardo La Volpe - the literal "Guy Who Wrote the Book" on the fan's favorite style of play.
("LaVolpista" refers to a coach who likes to go full blast, both guns blazing, with a defensive line that, ideally, should all be World Cup material.)
I will, however, go out on a limb and predict that next season, the team will invest in a pair of defenders. As of now, we only our have a central defender that would qualify as World Cup Material - Panama's Felipe Baloy. It was Felipe who both scored the goal, and got himself expelled. We'll see how things work out.
